This site was started in May 2005, in order to raise more than $100,000
for experimental spinal cord surgery for Travis Robinson.
Travis is the 19 year-old-son of John "Jocko" Robinson- an icon
in Southern California Diving, employee and friend for over 30 years.
Travis broke his neck and suffered severe trauma to his spinal cord when
he was going to do a belly-flop into a friend's pool in Oregon in late
2003.
Travis was paralyzed from the neck down and is confined to a wheelchair,
he requires constant attention. Travis will never be a varsity football
player again, or go SCUBA diving with his Dad, but technology and recent
new research has given victims of severe spinal cord injuries like Travis,
new HOPE.
December of 2005, less than 8 months from the start of the Help
Travis initiative, more than $114,000.00 had been raised from numerous
grass roots fundraisers and private donations.
Not only meeting, but exceeding the monetary goal has allowed Travis to
realize his dream for surgery in Portugal. Travis, his Mother Ann and
his father Jocko, traveled to Lisbon, Portugal in late January of 2006.
The surgery went without incident! Now Travis will embark on a journey
to walk again. He will be attending Project
Walk in March 2006 and start a long and intensive rehabilitation
program.
Our initial goal has been met, but there is still significant work to
do and significant costs involved with post-surgery care and therapy.
